This presentation speaks to the current trends in psychiatry where schizophrenia is now understood as a systemic disease with a strong metabolic component. It is especially being presented as it relates to diabetes mellitus. There are issues related to patients with schizophrenia including mediation therapy which predisposes them to develop diabetes mellitus more frequently than the general population. There will also be a few slides presented on psychosis in children.
